More NATO, Please!

Let us say, for the sake of argument, that Russia is indeed financing, supplying military hardware or soldiers, and otherwise supporting the rebels in the Donbass region of Ukraine. Why would Russia be doing that? What could be Putin’s motivation? Many in the West want the world to believe that Russia’s intention is expansionist – a rebirth of the Soviet Union or the perhaps the reestablishment of the glorious tsarist empire. This is what they keep telling us. Russia is a big, bad bear; he is aggressive and takes what he wants. Indeed, they have been telling me this since I was five years old and hiding under my desk in Ms. Simpson’s kindergarten class at Pocantico Hills Elementary on, wouldn’t you know it, Rockefeller’s estate. But really this is just so much calculated and, dare I say, misleading propaganda, relying on the ignorance (naiveté) of the American people.

Let us recall that in 1992 the infamous Wolfowitz Doctrine was trotted by then Defense Secretary, Paul Wolfowitz. Widely seen initially as far-overreaching and off-the-scale imperialistic, it laid out what would become standard US policy for unilateralism and pre-emptive military action to suppress potential threats from other nations. Yet, “its most ambitious and controversial proposal… was that the United States should commit itself to preventing any other country from dominating any region of the world that might be a springboard to threaten unipolar and exclusive US global dominance.”

Not six years thereafter we have the great awakening of long embittered and homeless Zbigniew Brzezinski, the son of low-level Polish nobility but, like a wandering nomad, estranged from his beloved homeland with the allotment of Poland to the Soviet Union at the Yalta Conference of 1945. In his 1998 political magnum opus, The Grand Chessboard, this ancient and  “withered mummy of imperialism” sets out his great geopolitical strategy for the United States. It is a typically disastrous zero-sum game strategy from a wounded, revengeful, and myopic weakling “whose life had been devoted to hatred for Russia.” His fundamental thesis is the imperative that no Eurasian challenger should emerge capable of dominating Eurasia and thus challenging America’s global pre-eminence. Boy, is this the mark of an imperialist psychopath, or what?  And you only need listen to his “moronic” daughter on MSNBC to get the full picture of this family’s twisted philosophy.

All current US foreign policy – especially in light of peak oil and a global climate fast approaching a negative sum-game scenario – has been directed to this end. Our overt and covert military excursions across MENA and the rest of the ‘Africa Command,’ our journeyman wars (declared and undeclared) in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, our interference in Syria, Iran, and Georgia, our increased presence in the China Sea, and, of course, our putsch in Ukraine with all the accompanying military, political, and financial support; these are all indicative of our adherence to a policy of world tyranny. But, of course, it was under the Clinton administration, (in full compliance with Wolfowitz and Brzezinski), that the United States started this process by reneging on an explicit agreement with Gorbachev that NATO would not expand one thumbnail eastward if a united Germany were allowed into the organization.

north-atlantic-terrorist-organization-nato-imperialism2Not a year after release of Brzezinski’s book, and disregarding James Baker’s assurances to Shevardnadze, NATO began an expansionist creep eastward gobbling up Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, with numerous other former “Eastern-Bloc” countries following in their footsteps. In short, the USA and its allies have been pursuing an aggressive policy of containment, surrounding and isolating Russia, in the hopes of breaking its back. The US is committed to this policy, (likewise with China… just watch!); and it will continue down this path until (1) all necessary resources are expended, (2) someone cries uncle, or (3) the USA comes to its senses (this last item, I doubt). So, if Putin is securing Russia’s borders, protecting his estranged countrymen and his warm water port, in short, defending Russia’s rights vis-a-vis Ukraine, I would say he has very good reason to do just that! By the same token America has absolutely no rights in this affair, and no reason to be there or to be upset. Its sole (and undisclosed) justification is some blind adherence to the pathological policies of the Neoconservative cabal of Wolfowitz and Brzezinski, bi-polar pillars of our New American Century… a century that will no doubt last significantly less than one hundred years! (maybe another decade)!

Wow! Didn’t know the pompous ass Wolfowitz actually had a doctrine named after him. An actual Doctrine^TM! His mother must be so proud. And Brzezinski, what can you say? A shameless loser from the Carter administration no less, who simply refuses to die and grace the world by his absence. Aging megalomaniacs are often like that.

But wait, this just in. NATO, aka the wholly owned and operated US mouthpiece, has declared that any Russian aid delivered to Ukraine will be considered an “invasion.” Likewise, that a US preemptive all out nuclear attack on Russia in response would be considered a “peacekeeping effort.” 😉 Yes, Orwell had it exactly right.

At the rate we’re going now, another decade in the driver’s seat looks decidedly optimistic. I think the end game is unfolding as we speak.

  2. Disaffected says:

    Speaking of Wolfowitz… 😉

That reminds me of the day down in the basement of the White House several months after the Iraq invasion. Bushy, Cheney, and Rumsfeld were down in the President’s “play war room,” so called because the Joint Chiefs had a 3-D room sized “battle map” of the mid-east – rather much like a model train layout without the trains – made up for the president to fuck around playing army on. Bushy was totally lost in his eight year old fantasy world, with his two inch toy army miniatures spread out all over the place, making shooting, explosion, and airplane noises – the whole bit – while Cheney stood by with that sinister grin on his face that made you think he was secretly thanking his lucky stars to have landed the second most powerful job in the world next to such an easily manipulated infantile moron, all the while feigning that he was actually listening to the equally incoherent and paranoid Rumsfeld blather on incessantly about the many permutations of “knowns, unknowns, and simply unknowables” that he had already considered in his analysis.

This had been going on all morning following the President’s daily national security briefing, where Bushy had embarrassed Condi Rice by blurting out the word “strategery!” in the middle of her briefing in response to nothing in particular, prompting a hurried bathroom break, as had become the norm for poor Condi whenever she was flustered, or, more often than not, just trying to suppress her laughter at the incredibly sophomoric antics of the dim-witted president. All of which pointed toward another rather uneventful day in the bowels of the West Wing, when who should walk in but Douglas – “Dougy” as all of the President’s staffers had taken to derisively calling him – Feith himself, one of Paul Wolfowitz’s particularly egg-headed underlings at DoD and technically an underling of Rumsfeld’s as well, one of the key academic “architects” of the whole Iraq fiasco, and pretty much totally persona non-grata in the White House for his grating personality and outspoken criticism of the administration’s execution of his Iraq invasion plan. Tommy Franks, the General in charge of executing the Iraq invasion, had famously called Feith “the dumbest fucker on the face of the earth,” never a glowing comment coming from someone so obviously in a position to speak authoritatively on the subject.

Feith had been warned repeatedly to stay out of the West Wing unless he had official business to conduct, and even then, only to be accompanied by his boss Wolfowitz; but like an unsuspecting fly being drawn by forces unknown into the spider’s web, the absent minded academic would often lose himself in thought and wander within the kill zone of Cheney, Rumsfeld, and their many minions. I could see the hairs on Rummy’s neck stand up from across the room at the mere sight of Feith, and when Dougy went straight over to the president and started offering strategic play warfare advice, even making not so subtle digs at Rumsfeld himself while within clear earshot of the old curmudgeon; I braced myself for the inevitable. Rumsfeld, who still maintained the champion wrestler’s physique of his days back at Princeton and was rumored to be a big fan of the movie “Fight Club,” went visibly taut like a pit bull eyeing a poodle, while Cheney, who has always exercised a sort of mind control over the impetuous Rummy, turned his gaze on the inept Feith in what clearly seemed to be some sort of mental radar lock-on for the Feith-seeking missile that Rummy was poised to become.

And then it was on. In an instant, the incredibly spry Rummy had poor Dougy in a headlock on the floor and reduced to a limp mass of blue-faced flesh, seemingly intent on squeezing the very life essence out of his hapless prey right then and there. What was truly amazing however, was the similar grace and quickness with which the normally sloth-like Cheney followed, lagging Rummy by a mere microsecond in arriving at their mutual target to add insult to severe injury by relentlessly kicking poor Feith in the ribs with all the glee and abandon of a drunken redneck biker in a gay bar fight. Bushy, caught up in his military play and never the sharpest knife in the drawer anyway, paused for a moment to process the whole scene, barked like a hyena, and then fell rolling on the floor in a fit of hysterical laughter, eventually pissing himself for what turned out to be the third time that week.

That might have been the end of the line for poor Dougy, when who should walk in but first lady Laura Bush with a big tray of milk and cookies for Bushy and his play pals. Upon surveying the carnage in general and Bushy’s soiled trousers in particular, she flew into a by now well-practiced and perfected rage, prompting Cheney and Rummy to beat a hasty retreat like two junkyard mutts caught digging in the first lady’s flower garden, leaving the hapless Feith on the floor in a gelatinous mass of fresh road kill and poor Bushy likewise in a pool of his own piss with that “oh shit, what do I do now” look on his face, for which those close to him had come to know and affectionately remember him so well. Yeah, that day was a real fucking hoot alright…

What you say is true, the entire plan was laid out in triplicate, the problem here is that Our Emperors supporters choose to ignore it; or somehow believe that The Big O is so wise or goodhearted that it doesn’t matter. This is the exact kind of Democratic/Progressive thinking which leaves many of us people w/o a party.

The United States is coming apart at the seams, it is obvious the modern welfare state has failed, the amount of callous crime in the streets prove this, the National Debt is out of control (sorry DA, I think it does matter), food prices are thru the roof, the list can go on and on, and it does. here we sit on a huge landmass, plenty of room to put the unemployed to work farming and yes, i know it’s the root of all evil, but look at the alternative), and our masters in NYC/DC are twiddling their thumbs.

Abe Lincoln supposedly said he didn’t want to go to the “big city”, that it would kill him, and it did, this from the man who established the modern corporate state at Gettysburg (according to some interpretations). Even those with the best intentions fall into the jaws of the Beast.

Globalism ain’t working, a product of linear Western thinking, it only benefits the multi-national corps. these are the facts on the ground. Yes, it all sounds nice, universal justice, good luck with that.

    • Disaffected says:

The debt “matters” because we the people think it does and perception is reality. And it certainly “matters” to the rich and powerful, as it was always designed to be a signal or of sorts that it was time to cut off social welfare programs. You’ll notice that when it comes to funding military programs and wars of opportunity no discussion of “the monstrous debt” is ever had. And were we to abolish the Fed, which could be done relatively easily but nonetheless never will be, the debt could disappear in an instant and be paid off by fresh greenbacks (which Lincoln did in the wake of the Civil War) and then be recognized for what it really is: the size of the federally issued money supply.

But you’re right HT, the debt “matters” because of our conception of it as equivalent to personal or household debt (even though it is neither) and because our masters are smart enough to know it and use it as a bludgeon to beat the poor. Nevertheless, the debt will continue to grow in perpetuity or until the whole sham system crashes for good – which might well be soon – no matter what any of the pols say about it – including the Tea Party goofs – and it will NEVER be used as an impediment IN THE LEAST to more wars of opportunity.

      • Disaffected says:

Perhaps the most insidious part of the “debt,” especially that incurred since 2008, is that it was used merely to re-inflate asset prices (real estate, basic commodities, and equities primarily, and of course the ubiquitous Wall St derivatives secondarily and even more ominously). Of course all of those bubbles are poised to pop all over again, especially with US military adventurism now running psychotically rampant the world over, and then we’ll be right back where we started in 2008 again, albeit saddled with all the “debt” we squandered enriching bankers and the Wall St investor/shyster class in the interim. And without a hope in hell of using monetary policy to dig our way back out, probably ever again. And seeing as we’re miraculously somehow still the world’s reserve currency (everyone else’s is even worse I guess), the whole international trade system will crater with it. What we’ll do then is anyone’s guess, although it usually involves a lot of joblessness, starvation, homelessness, guns, bombs, missiles, and that sort of thing. Perhaps the current US military adventurism is just trying to get a jump on what’s soon to come either way?

        • Terry David says:

Here’s how I’m afraid it’s going to work regarding the national debt: Assuming that the west is run by a cabal composed of the most powerful of wall street, international banking, oil companies and their hired enforcers within the CIA et. al., then the national debt will matter the moment the dollar loses its reserve status. Once that happens, the cabal will likely “call the loan” which will be impossible to pay. They will then “magnanimously” accept payment in kind — say, all of the public lands in the US and its coastal waters. And for good measure, they’ll take over large swaths of the military’s operations making the US population and the official US government a client state to the Dark State/ shadow government. Think one big company town, very much like they’ve been doing for decades around the world, and once did in the USA during the gilded age. The US population will get to live like rest of the banana republics which we are more and more resembling.

Of course, this will occur right out in the open under the cover of world war. And Americans will somehow, yet again, Not Notice who has actually eaten their lunch. If protest crosses anyone’s mind, any discussion of it will be deleted from their Faceberg feeds. If a protest manages to coalesce, then it will be dispersed with directed energy weaponry that’s pretty much fully developed and intended for domestic use, not the theater of war. Regardless, it most certainly will not be televised (only trumped up terrorism is televised).

On the bright side, maybe that illegal immigration problem will subside.

In closing, it’s good to see you on fire again, Sandy. This is a terrific post. As usual, terrific commentators too. Your last post was also a masterpiece (pre-understanding), which gets to the root of cultural programming of individuals’ psyche. Is it safe to say that you’ve emerged from a Dark Night of the Soul, and come out swinging?

          • Disaffected says:

Yep Terry, that’s more or less how I see it as well. Some sort of ‘corporate bucks’ will then be issued as currency to replace the dollar (and kept in suitably short supply to keep everyone on a suitably short leash), and the transformation to banana republic will be complete. No less than Thomas Jefferson was onto the banksters all that time ago when he said this:

“If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered…I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies… The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.”

There’s lots of information out there on this, so it’s not like ‘we the people’ haven’t had the information at our disposal, but alas, we’re too lazy to demand what should be obvious. That we the people issue our own debt free money through our own government Treasury and that we not allow it to be captured by an international banker/shyster cartel.

And yes, the current uptick in US militarism is perfectly explained by a looming monetary crisis, especially one brought on by national resource depletion and thus the end of the exponential growth ponzi that has characterized the age of oil. I think the international oligarchy cartel realizes full well the stakes of the game and are positioning themselves to come out on top. Of course money alone won’t help them avoid the proverbial lamp posts if enough people reject their false narrative, but alas, so far that’s not happening. Perhaps like AGW, we’re just awaiting a tipping point?

Which is basically what they are doing right now.

      • the Heretick says:

But, but, “perception is reality” and that is exactly why the debt “matters”. You and I know that it’s basically a simulation, but it’s a simulation which affects our everyday lives. All of the very true and valid points you bring up, they are exactly why the snowball needs to stop rolling.
Every time T-Bills are issued to swell the money supply food goes up another notch, they deny inflation, we know it’s not true. Without funny money to pay for these wars, the wars would be harder to sell.
As for the international trade system kept afloat by this charade? The sooner it tumbles down, the sooner multi-nationals crash and burn, and the less reason for our military to be deployed around the globe.
You’re probably right, “things are in the saddle and ride mankind”, they won’t stop; but if we would just draw in and take care of our own, the rest of the world would be better off.

Watching a show yesterday on what will happen to the “nation” when we are cyber attacked and the electrical grid goes down. All the could say was the important ones in the government will run to Cheyenne mountain in Colorado not giving a wit about everyone that will not have electricity or because of it nothing else and they always seem to think that it will be a Mad Max scenario and most probably in the Cities it will for a while. Debt won’t mean a damn thing then as it doesn’ seem to now.

    • Disaffected says:

Debt, both public and private, is an illusion and could be wiped out in no time at all if we ever decided to do it. But of course we won’t, because its the well to do that hold it and everybody else who owes it. And of course the well to do own the political process as well. Go figure. But the rapidly deleting natural resource base that underlies and theoretically supports all that debt is vanishing, and that ain’t no joke, and will signal the end of the debt ponzi somewhere down the line for good. How long will that be? Me thinks the well to do probably have a pretty good idea already and are planning accordingly. Thus the current preemptive and thinly disguised resource wars dressed up as “peacekeeping actions” or whatever nonsense phrase of the hour they choose to apply to them.

Just consider how much all of this stuff will be amplified when the increased future socio-economic effects of all the rest are added to the mix as well. Although, once again, we here in the first world are just waking up to all this shit. All the stuff going on for years in the Middle East, Central America, and all the rest that we’ve thus far been indifferent to while our governments actively fueled the fire with our tacit approval is just finally coming home to roost in some infinitely small way. Hang our heads in shame? Probably no need. The sins of our fathers will soon enough be visited on us and our progeny.

Our country is fractured, it really is time to relocate, no matter the cost. As for the shooting, what can one say? I don’t believe cops just shoot for no reason, they put their career, not to mention their life, at hazard. The truth is the first casualty of war, and that is what it’s shaping up to be. Read Fred Reed this week, he seems to get the picture from way down there south.
“Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.”
Yes, that’s the Bible, but it fits; no matter what you believe, when the species behaves so stupidly there is a cost. A while back I coined a phrase, “when blood becomes the currency, there is Hell to pay”.

      • Disaffected says:

I dunno HT, when I see cops in military gear and vehicles that would put third world armies to shame I have no doubt who I’m more afraid of. 9-11 was just an excuse to militarize the “Homeland,” as we’re calling it all Nazi-style these days, to suppress the violent uprisings that our leadership knew would be coming when the oil party began to end. And so far the cops are living up to their highest expectations. Make no mistake as to whose interests they’re serving. It damn sure ain’t yours or mine.

        • the Heretick says:

It’s class warfare for real, that’s plain to see. The country is turning the tactics of empire inward as the external empire shrinks, as we knew would happen. Nationalism is a dirty word, but when it all collapses, as it inevitably will, we will be left to deal with life on this continent. The rabid right sees a global socialist conspiracy, blah, blah, blah………….
From the left I see the UPC, the wealth of the 1% swelling on the backs of foreign workers, large swathes of our population uneducated and unemployable, all while still more low-skilled people flood across our border. A curious mix of left and right commentary for sure, but when you strip away the camouflage it’s the truth, us vs. them, and the only color that matters is green.

Yes, I know whose interests the forces of oppression serve, the problem is when the cops and the military figure it out, where will they turn? Toward greater fascism? Or just bail? At that point all the people who would not listen to 100 years of social reformers will be left to deal with the human detritus created by hundreds of years of social conditioning toward the savage exploitation of fellow human beings.

No, my dear DA, you know my take on this is more nuanced, or do I flatter myself?

It’s always about power, money, and control, same here, same there, Ukraine, Vietnam, Chicago, Beijing, always the same. The players change, but the game remains the same.

I sometimes think I should like to give up business entirely. The care and worriment attending large business interests are very great, but besides that fact the manner in which motives are impugned and characters assailed is most unpleasant
As quoted in the Commercial and Financial Chronicle (25 March 1882)

Nothing changes. Truth is the people of the ghetto are feral, it’s what they have been turned into, they have no stake in this society. I have no stake in this society, still unemployed, no property, little hope. I understand, somewhat, the feelings of the truly poor, and will probably soon be there. My kids are struggling to go to school, but $11.00 an hour full time disqualifies them for financial aid, and then if I go broke? My children will be honor-bound to support me. I will lose my car and just be a burden. And the unemployment? Running out, and guess what? Just enough to rule out food stamps. The deck is stacked.

I truly wish sometimes that I had never been given any sort of moral teachings, I would have had a happier life. The people who I have known in my life who have behaved in an amoral or immoral manner have made the most money, and appear to be the happiest and most well adjusted.

We are all slaves on a planet-wide plantation. All these battles here, battles there, are just fights for control of the goods. Sorry to be so depressing and honest.

He’s usually pretty good too, although definitely never politically correct. I read somewhere yesterday that the cops are just as caught up in this culture of paranoia as the rest of us. But I doubt they suffer many career penalties for shooting first. I need only look south to Abq NM to see the folly in that assertion. And when they do shoot first, they’re likely to shoot you many times to make sure you’re dead. Dead men tell no tales and all that.

        • the Heretick says:

City after city joins the ranks of the bankrupt, semiliterate, corrupt black Bantustans which by honest naming would be called Lower Third World. Their culture is utterly alien to that of Eurowhites. Across the open border to the south pour huge waves from the Latino slums, less alien to Eurowhites, less hostile, but nonetheless threatening to form yet another country within a country. The Third World proportion of America closes rapidly on a full third. Despite desperate attempts to impose multicultural harmony, experience shows that widely disparate peoples who do not like each other do not enjoy happy endings. My country ‘tis of three, sweet land of dystrophy….

I think where Fred and the people of his generation go wrong is their assumption of some sort of “divine right” of rule for the so-called Euro-whites, and second of all that Euro-whites even represent a unified ethnic group.

First of all, the Eurowhites of the ruling class have as little in common with the Eurowhites of the working class as the Eurowhite working class has with the Hispanics, the blacks, or any other ethnic group. Perhaps even less. Should any Eurowhite of modest means ever infiltrate the ruling class, which they don’t without first shedding their working class habits, they’d find that out the hard way.

Second of all, the “precious” constitution they hold so dear because it seemingly locks in their rights of superiority ad infinitum was always a flawed document, written by rich Eurowhite landed gentry well over 200 years ago, primarily to lock in their privilege. It was never meant to be the “sacred” document it’s since morphed into by its protectors, but rather, is routinely used as a bludgeon to beat whatever minority it happens to be fashionable at any given time to beat. And lately, that’s all of us.

And third, white culture, left to its own devices, produces exactly what we see today in the worst cases: an inbred bunch of retarded, uncultured, supposedly “privileged” bastards who are incapable of even identifying what it is that’s in their best interests, never mind actually living in a civilized manner with either themselves or other cultures.

In short, if I was of the working class Eurowhite culture (and I am), I would be minding my Ps and Qs to avoid my elimination altogether by forging some alliances with others of my own socio-economic class regardless of ethnicity, as it’s damn sure apparent that my Eurowhite ruling class ethnic “brethren” damn sure ain’t looking out for my best interest.
And the final irony is that Fred married a Mexican and moved to Mexico.

Exactly. The only “war” that’s going on now is the one between the haves and the have nots and more and more of us are falling into that latter category. Additionally, only one side even knows that the war has officially been declared, and rest assured, it ain’t the poor side. Which is why its so funny and illustrative to watch the Dems scurry like cockroaches whenever charges of class warfare are made by the ReThugs. Any self-respective Dem worth his salt should respond “god damned right it is!”

This one is perhaps so infinitely stupid that perhaps it doesn’t deserve any further comment. Nonetheless…

Long story short: Tony Stewart hits Kevin Ward and crashes him into the wall during a Sprint Car race. Ward valiantly climbs out of his ride, walks against traffic on an active race track to confront his nemesis, apparently misjudges the back tires of Stewart’s open wheel race car rapidly approaching him, and meets his “untimely demise” in front of “god and everybody” as an almost immediate result.

Aside from any further commentary on the utter stupidity Kevin Ward exhibited just prior to his “untimely demise,” you have to wonder if this isn’t just the sort of “gobsmacked” that we here in the west are about to feel when our dreams of imperial domination run smack dab up against the constraints of continued fossil fuel energy extraction, especially in places that we don’t technically “own” in the first place, OR, on the flip side, the “smack in the head” the squatters on the west’s duly “owned” energy supplies will feel when we in the imperial west come to collect what is “rightfully ours.” Which will it be? Remains to be seen, but as the NFL receiver and uber loudmouth Terrell Owens was once want to say, you may want to “get your popcorn” before the start of this show, as it’s bound to be a doozy!

Grown men burning up fuel to no purpose, hard to have sympathy for a death resulting from such a pointless exercise. No wonder our country is falling apart, the resources put into one race could probably send several kids (or adults) to college. Excess at it’s most ridiculous, the dream world that is America. There is talk of charging Tony Stewart with a crime, the “victim” caused his own death due to bravado Jesus F. Christ..

I was struck by the stupidity of the media commentary afterward. The whole thing looked like a comedy reel.

Washington Chokes Truth With Lies — Paul Craig Roberts>

One day the Europeans will wake up. When they do, they will realize that Washington does nothing for them except to protect them from a non-existent “Russian threat,” while imposing dramatic costs upon them by employing Europeans as levies in Washington’s war for hegemony over the world. Sooner or later Europeans must realize that this role assigned to them by Washington is not in their interest and leads directly to World War III in which Europeans will be the first casualties.

Military veterans see flawed police response in Ferguson

Scriven King, a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force’s law enforcement component and a SWAT officer, attributed the initial spasm of violence to a lack of leadership and mismanagement of public perception on the Ferguson Police Department’s behalf.

“The first thing that went wrong was when the police showed up with K-9 units,” Scriven said. “The dogs played on racist imagery. … It played the situation up and [the department] wasn’t cognizant of the imagery.”

King added that, instead of de-escalating the situation on the second day, the police responded with armored vehicles and SWAT officers clad in bulletproof vests and military-grade rifles.

“We went through some pretty bad areas of Afghanistan, but we didn’t wear that much gear,” said Kyle Dykstra, an Army veteran and former security officer for the State Department. Dykstra specifically pointed out the bulletproof armor the officers were wearing around their shoulders, known as “Deltoid” armor.

“I can’t think of a [protest] situation where the use of M4 [rifles] are merited,” Fritz said. “I don’t see it as a viable tactic in any scenario.”

    • Disaffected says:

If the cops realized whose interests they were serving (and it damn sure ain’t theirs!), they would lay down their arms and join the protests. Proles unite!
